My name's Josh; I grew up in upstate New York, learning to play chess when I was about 7, but not spending much time actually playing until 9th grade, when I started going to
FLCS. After over a year of playing casually, I decided to start a Chess Club for the school, which I agreed to run. A good number of people joined, however I soon learned that the interest in learning chess was far lower than the interest in actually playing, especially for those who already knew how to play, which was an overwhelming majority of those involved. Accordingly, I made a plan for the following year to run two separate programs: the Chess Club, which was already in place, and a Chess League, which would be devoted solely to competition for those who already know how to play. Not to my surprise, nearly everyone in the Chess Club from the previous year chose to be in the Chess League instead, which led to the Chess Club being discontinued.
